Re-Home

United Animal Friends's Courtesy Listing Program is for people who, for whatever reason, must re-home their pet.  Many caring owners want to see that their animal goes to a good home.  Because our foster homes are often filled to capacity, your pet will stay with you until a new home is found.  This makes the move to a new home less traumatic for your animal and allows you to be a part of the adoption process.

You will need to provide proof that your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations.  If your pet is more than four months of age, you must also provide proof that he or she has been spayed or neutered.  If the animal needs vaccines or is not spayed or neutered, you must make arrangements to do so.  If you need financial assistance in order to have this done, we may be able to help.  For animals under four months of age, we will require that the adopter pay a spay/neuter deposit, which will be refunded to them once the procedure is completed.

Once your pet becomes part of the Courtesy Listing Program, we will place their photos and information on our website, with a UAF volunteer listed as the contact for inquiries.  We also encourage you or a designate to show the animal at our adoption events.  Potential adopters will be informed that a home visit is required to ensure the right fit for the pet, and that an adoption fee will be payable to UAF.  Although most people "just want their animal to go to a good home," UAF requires an adoption fee for several reasons:

  • It shows that your animal has value.  He or she is important to you and you want him or her to be special to someone else as well.  There are many unscrupulous people out there looking for "free to a good home" animals.  Many do NOT have your pet's best interest at heart.
  • If a potential adopter cannot afford a modest adoption fee, they cannot afford to take care of your animal's medical needs.  You want the best for your animal.  "Free" animals often become homeless animals.  Please remember that we have many years of experience in placing animals in loving forever homes.
  • For animals who have not been altered, this fee helps to offset the cost of the spay or neuter.
